400 kg of marijuana seized in Nagoya
Law enforcement officials have confiscated 400
kilograms of dried marijuana from a container left in Nagoya port by a
Panamanian-flagged container ship, police said Tuesday. [1]
The amount, which police say has an estimated street value of 2 billion yen, [2]
is the second-biggest single haul of marijuana ever made in Japan, after the
450 kg seized in Osaka in 1993.
The drug was found in 120 pouches concealed in a container filled with
gravel that was unloaded from the 18,487-ton ACX Lilac which entered Nagoya
port June 5. The pouches contained 40 lumps of marijuana that weighed some 80
grams each and resembled glue.
