RECORD AMOUNT OF DRUGS SEIZED IN JAPAN LAST YEAR
TOKYO, Jan. 20 (Kyodo) -- Japanese authorities confiscated a record high 869.81 kilograms of illegal drugs in 1998 that smugglers attempted to bring into the country, the Finance Ministry said Wednesday.
The figure far surpassed the previous record of 769.51 kg registered in 1996, a ministry official said.
