40 kg of stimulants found on beach
KANAZAWA (Kyodo)
A fisherman taking a walk on Sunday along the shore in Ishikawa Prefecture found 40 kg of stimulant drugs, police said Monday.
The amphetamines, found at 10:20 a.m., Sunday on a beach in the town of Monzen on the Noto Peninsula, were in 40 nylon bags wrapped in a nylon sheet, the police said.
The police believe the drugs, with a street value of about ¥ 2.4 billion, were washed ashore and may have come from a ship or ships engaged in drug trafficking.
According to the police, the package of the drugs may have been carried up the beach by a big wave on Wednesday night, when rough waters hit the area, since it was found about 100 meters from the waterline.
