Four held after boat yields 250 kg of amphetamines
MATSUE, Shimane Pref. (Kyodo) Four men were arrested in
Yunotsu, Shimane Prefecture, early Saturday on suspicion of trying to smuggle about 250 kg of amphetamines into Japan, police said. Kenzo Shimode, 62, two other unnamed crew members of the fishing vessel Eifuku Maru, and Yuki Kai, 35, of Tokyo, who allegedly came to
Yunotsu port to pick up the drugs, were arrested on suspicion of violating the Stimulants Control Law.
The drugs, with an estimated street value of ¥15 billion [US$140 million], were found packed in more than 30 boxes aboard the ship while it was anchored at the port, police said. The ship arrived Friday night, according to Shimane and Yamaguchi police.
